Utility growth company Sempra Infrastructure has announced that its ECA LNG Phase 1 project in Mexico is facing delays due to damage found during planned inspections. The project, a one-train natural gas liquefaction facility in Ensenada, Mexico, achieved mechanical completion in December 2025 and first liquefied natural gas (LNG) production as part of the commissioning process in June 2026.

The facility's refrigerant compressors suffered damage after exporting its first cargo. Sempra Infrastructure has stated that it expects to reach substantial completion by the fourth quarter of 2026, pending the results of a root cause investigation and remediation workstreams consistent with management expectations.

Despite this setback, Sempra Infrastructure's year-to-date performance remains strong, and the company does not anticipate a reduction in planned earnings contributions for 2026 and 2027. The ECA LNG Phase 1 project is expected to add significant capacity to Sempra Infrastructure's portfolio of LNG facilities.
