Sempra Initiates Permitting for Massive Texas LNG Expansion

Sempra Energy's Port Arthur LNG has initiated the permitting process for its North Project, a major expansion of liquefied natural gas export operations in Southeast Texas. The project would add four new trains capable of producing up to 27 million metric tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG.

The proposed facilities would include three LNG storage tanks and marine infrastructure with two berths for loading tankers. If approved, the project is expected to start exporting LNG in the second half of 2034.

Sempra already operates Phase 1 and Phase 2 at Port Arthur LNG, with a combined capacity of 26 mtpa. The North Project would significantly increase total export capacity and solidify Southeast Texas's position as one of the world's largest LNG export hubs.
