Senate Farm Bill Includes Provisions to Help Farmers with Fertilizer Costs

The U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee is set to vote on the Agriculture Act of 2026, also known as the farm bill, on Thursday.

The South Dakota Corn Growers Association has been following key points in this bill, particularly one related to transparency on fertilizer prices.

DaNita Murray, executive director of South Dakota Corn, said the organization has been working with U.S. Sen. John Thune on a provision that would require the USDA to collect and publish information on fertilizer prices from manufacturers on a weekly basis.

This transparency is crucial as fertilizer prices have risen significantly since 2022, pushing farmers to the brink financially, according to Murray.
