Senegal Unlocks 109 Oil and Gas Blocks for Investors

Senegal is opening up its oil and gas sector to investors by putting 109 out of 113 blocks on the market. The country's Energy and Petroleum Minister, El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf, said that only four blocks are currently contracted.

The move aims to create local leaders in the energy industry, according to the minister. Several oil and gas discoveries offshore Senegal have kickstarted the petroleum industry in the country over the past decade.

The first oil project was launched in 2024, followed by LNG exports from a gas project offshore Senegal and Mauritania in 2025. The Sangomar oil project, operated by Woodside Energy, achieved first oil in June 2024.
