Indian stock markets plummeted on Friday as Brent crude oil prices surged past $100 per barrel, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia and concerns over India's Balance of Payments.

The Sensex dropped over 500 points to 75,869.38, while the Nifty declined by 153 points to 23,713.60 in initial deals.

InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, slipped over 2% after reporting a net loss of Rs 238 crore for the three months ended June due to higher fuel prices and West Asia conflict.

Infosys declined by over 1% as it tempered its revenue forecast amid macroeconomic uncertainty.
