Sensex Plunges Amid US-Iran Tensions and Rising Oil Prices
Indian stocks began Monday's session on a cautious note due to rising US-Iran tensions and higher crude oil prices. The BSE Sensex slipped close to 200 points, testing 76,300, while the NSE Nifty50 traded above 23,800, taking a hit of more than 50 points.
The GIFT Nifty pointed to a subdued start for domestic equities, with Nifty futures quoted at 23,978, down 71 points. This signaling a negative opening for the benchmark index.
Most Asia-Pacific markets traded higher on Monday, following gains in technology stocks and a positive lead from Wall Street at the end of last week. However, the performance of global equities remains an important cue for Indian investors as they assess the outlook for risk assets amid geopolitical uncertainty.
