The Indian benchmark indices ended higher on Tuesday, August 25, despite opening weak due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia following the US plans to put sanctions on Iran.

The Sensex rose 286.98 points or 0.37% to 77,656.09, while the Nifty gained 115.50 points or 0.48% to 24,334.55.

Brent crude is holding near $90 a barrel after falling 4% on Monday following the sanctions rollout, and this continues to pose risks to India's import bill and the rupee, which stood at 95.74.
