Sensex Tumbles Over 600 Points as Crude Oil Prices Near $100
The Indian stock market experienced a significant decline on Wednesday, driven by concerns over crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
The Sensex fell more than 600 points to trade at 74,900 levels, while the Nifty 50 dropped below 23,500.
The decline was largely attributed to Brent crude's price nearing $100 a barrel, which has raised concerns about energy supplies and increased import costs for India.
Higher oil prices can also put pressure on the rupee, making it more difficult for the Indian currency to remain stable against the US dollar.
