Seplat Considers Floating LNG Facility Amid Gas Ambitions
Nigerian oil firm Seplat Energy is considering deploying a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in one of its newly acquired oilfields, according to a company memo seen by industry observers. The plan would be located in the Niger Delta, Nigeria's oil-rich region.
The proposed FLNG facility comes as part of Seplat's pivot towards becoming a gas-first producer following its acquisition of ExxonMobil's Nigerian onshore and shallow water assets for $1.28 billion in 2024.
Seplat's interest in FLNG is part of a broader trend across Nigeria and the wider continent, where gas producers view floating liquefaction as the fastest route to monetize offshore reserves.
The proposed facility would be one of several major projects aimed at unlocking 850 million cubic feet per day of gas across three major projects, Anoh, Oben, and Sapele. These projects could serve between 15 million and 20 million Nigerians.
