ShaMaran Halts Oil Production in Kurdistan Region Over Security Worries
Canadian oil company ShaMaran Petroleum has suspended production at its Atrush and Sarsang oil fields in the Kurdistan Region due to deteriorating security conditions.
The move, similar to that of other companies operating in the region, is aimed at protecting employees and assets. According to a statement by ShaMaran, they are continually monitoring the situation to resume production as soon as it becomes safe to do so.
The Atrush field, located in Duhok province, covers an area of approximately 1,000 square kilometers and contains around 3 billion barrels of oil. Production at the site began in July 2017 after oil was first discovered there in 2011.
