Shell has greenlit the third phase of its Malikai deepwater development in Malaysia, aiming to boost oil production by 60% to around 40,000 barrels per day. The project involves drilling four new wells and leveraging the same combo riser technology used in Phase 1.

The Malikai field was commissioned in 2016 and is operated by Shell's Malaysian subsidiary, Sabah Shell Petroleum Company. The field's partners include ConocoPhillips and Petronas Carigali.

Phase 3 is expected to increase oil production at Malikai from around 25,000 barrels per day currently. Production from Phase 3 is set to begin in the third quarter of 2028.
