Shell Invests $350 Million in Egypt's Offshore Gas Infrastructure

Egypt's economy is set to receive a significant boost from global energy giant Shell, which has approved a $350 million investment in the country's offshore natural gas infrastructure.

The investment targets the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession, specifically Phase 12a, and is a collaborative effort between Shell's subsidiary BG Delta Limited, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and Malaysia's Petronas.

This funding represents a critical step in maintaining steady energy production from one of Egypt's most important Mediterranean gas fields, which has been operational since 2003. The ongoing development builds on earlier successes in 2024 and 2025, when phases 10 and 11 successfully brought six active gas wells online.

At the heart of the new phase is the planned drilling and completion of three deepwater gas wells, with production scheduled to begin in 2028. This move targets a crucial sector that plays a fundamental role in powering homes and supporting the everyday lives of citizens across the nation.
