Shell Puts Bet on Liquefied Gas as Core Growth Engine
Shell has made it clear that liquefied natural gas will be its central growth engine. The company's emphasis on this area is not new, but rather a concentration of its previous broad energy transition ambition.
The strategy involves selling off mature assets and letting go of legacy interests in long-established projects. This is not about distress sales, but rather redeploying capital to areas where the company expects better returns.
At the same time, Shell has been adding high-conviction exploration positions, including taking a stake in a deepwater prospect operated by a rival. Deepwater has become a favored arena for majors due to its concentrated resources and lower entry barriers.
