Shell Shelves Trinidad Aphrodite Gas Project Over Commercial Terms Dispute
Shell has put its Trinidad Aphrodite gas project on hold after failing to agree on commercial terms with National Gas Company. The project, which was expected to supply around 100 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, would have provided additional feedstock to the country's energy and petrochemical industries.
The delay is a setback for Trinidad and Tobago, Latin America's largest LNG exporter, which has been experiencing declining natural gas production. The country is also pursuing alternative supply sources, including cross-border gas development plans with Venezuela.
Shell holds a 45% stake in Atlantic LNG, making the availability of reliable and competitively priced domestic gas strategically important to the company.
