SHI Lands Huge Orders for LNG Carriers and Crude Oil Tankers
Samsung Heavy Industries has secured two major contracts to build six new vessels. The South Korean shipbuilder will construct four large LNG carriers and two crude oil tankers, valued at approximately US$1.2 billion.
The largest order is for four 200,000 m³ class LNG carriers, which are larger than conventional 174,000 m³ class vessels. These larger ships can transport the same volume of cargo in fewer voyages, improving operational efficiency.
This latest win brings Samsung Heavy Industries' total new vessel orders to 44 this year, with a combined value of around US$11.7 billion. The company has already exceeded its annual order target for commercial vessels and is making progress towards reaching its offshore sector target as well.
