Sibanye-Stillwater Greenlights Copper-Gold Projects in Tasmania and South Africa

Sibanye-Stillwater has given the green light to two new projects that will expand its copper and gold production. The Johannesburg-based miner approved the Mt Lyell copper-gold project in Tasmania, which is expected to produce 26,000 tonnes of copper, 16,000 oz. of gold, and 116,000 oz. of silver annually over a 23-year mine life.

The company will spend $7.5 million on the project in 2026 and restart it towards first ore in 2029. At steady state, Mt Lyell is expected to produce at an all-in sustaining cost of $2.56 per lb. of copper.

Sibanye-Stillwater also approved the Burnstone gold project in South Africa, which has 2.7 million oz. in gold reserves and is expected to produce about 130,000 oz. annually over a 25-year mine life.
