Silver Demand Shift: Data Centres Outpace Solar Manufacturers
A recent report from Metals Focus and the Silver Institute has revealed that data centres are emerging as a significant demand driver for silver, with their off-take expected to exceed 10% of electrical and electronics demand by 2027.
The World Silver Survey 2026 forecasts that data centre demand will consume around 42.3 million ounces of silver annually, surpassing the production levels of major silver-producing countries like Chile and Poland.
Most of this demand is attributed to chip packaging, connectors, and power modules, which require silver-based pastes to preserve signal integrity and thermal interface materials to manage extreme temperatures.
This growth in data centre demand is expected to be a key driver for the silver market over the next few years, with some analysts predicting that it could lead to a rotation away from solar manufacturers who are actively reducing their silver usage.
