Silver Faces Triple Headwinds from Strong Payrolls, Hawkish Fed Remarks, and Geopolitical Tensions

The US non-farm payrolls rose by 162,000 in August, far exceeding expectations of 56,000. This led to a sharp increase in rate hike probabilities, with the CME FedWatch Tool indicating a 58.3% chance of a September rate hike.

Federal Reserve Governor Hammack delivered a hawkish speech, stating that policy was 'not restrictive' and inflation was 'too high'. He emphasized the need for further rate hikes to curb inflation, which is likely to support the strong US dollar and suppress silver prices.

The escalating tensions between the US and Iran over the weekend drove up oil prices, with WTI crude rebounding to near $92 per barrel. This has reignited concerns about imported inflation, which may lead to further rate hikes and continue to put downward pressure on silver.
