Silver Futures Surge as CME Group Introduces Weekend Trading
CME Group's 100-Ounce Silver futures contracts saw significant demand during their first weekend of 24/7 trading, which began in February 2026. According to the exchange, 2,387 contracts traded on the weekends, representing over $15 million in notional value.
This follows a similar trend with gold futures, where over 140,000 contracts have traded during weekend sessions since 24/7 trading was introduced in July 2026. This represents more than $600 million in notional value and is the largest liquidity pool for weekend trading in Gold futures.
Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals at CME Group, said that 'Silver sits at the crossroads of precious and industrial metals' and that participants want round-the-clock access to manage both investment exposure and real-world supply risk.'
