Silver Price Drops Amid Investor Profit-Taking
Silver prices have taken a hit in the latest trading session, plummeting nearly 3% as investors continue to trim their positions. Despite this sharp decline, silver remains one of the best-performing precious metals over the past year.
At its current price of $56.754 per troy ounce, silver has fallen 2.83% on the day and is down 2.85% over the past week. However, it's worth noting that the metal has surged 49.41% over the past year, significantly outperforming many other commodities during the same period.
The recent weakness in silver prices can be attributed to investors booking profits after the metal traded near multi-year highs. The precious metal remains nearly 50% higher than a year ago, but its price has dropped by 19.89% on a year-to-date basis, highlighting the sharp price swings that have shaped the market in 2026.
Silver prices are influenced by a combination of investment demand, industrial consumption, interest rate expectations, inflation trends, and movements in the US dollar. As both a precious and industrial metal, silver often reacts to changes in economic outlook as well as shifts in investor sentiment.
