Silver Price Hits $64.75 as Industrial Demand Rises
The price of silver has been on a tear in recent years, gaining over $23 per ounce since last year. As of September 11, 2026, one ounce of silver costs $64.75, representing an 85-cent drop from the previous day but a 55.79% increase from its value a year ago.
However, silver's performance pales in comparison to the stock market, with long-term returns underperforming the S&P 500 by around 96%. This means that if you had invested equally in silver and stocks since 1921, your silver investment would be approximately 96% lower in value today.
Despite its lackluster returns, silver is often seen as a 'store of value' that can protect against inflation. Its industrial uses also give it an added layer of sensitivity to market fluctuations, particularly compared to gold which is primarily used as a safe-haven asset.
