Silver Price Prediction Slashed Amid Solar Demand Downturn
Silver's price prediction for the fourth quarter of 2026 has been revised downward by J.P. Morgan, from $90 to $63 an ounce.
This cut has little to do with interest rates and more to do with solar panels.
Gregory Shearer, head of Base and Precious Metals Strategy at J.P. Morgan, notes that higher rates raise the opportunity cost of holding an asset that pays nothing, causing capital to rotate into things that do.
However, he also expects solar demand for silver to fall by around 30% this year, due in part to a shift away from using silver in solar panels.
