Silver Prices Plummet Amid Escalating Global Tensions and Inflation Fears
The global economy is experiencing a downturn, and silver prices are feeling the pressure. As of June 10, the XAG price has plummeted to $64, down significantly from its year-to-date high of $121.
This decline is attributed to various factors, including escalating tensions in the Middle East. The US launched attacks against Iran after it downed a US military aircraft patrolling the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded with force, targeting US military facilities in the region, which may lead to ongoing counterstrikes.
The situation is further complicated by fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, with Israel launching strikes against Lebanon that killed at least eight people. This development will likely draw a response from Iran, which has stated that Lebanon must be part of any negotiations.
US inflation data, set to be released on Wednesday and Thursday, will also play a significant role in determining the future of silver prices. Economists expect the headline CPI to reach 4.2% and the PPI to rise from 6% to 6.4%. Strong inflation numbers may lead the Federal Reserve to maintain a hawkish stance, keeping interest rates between 3.50% and 3.75%.
The technical analysis of silver prices reveals a bearish outlook, with the price having fallen below an ascending trendline connecting its lowest swings since March this year. A death cross pattern is forming, as the 50-day and 200-day moving averages are about to cross each other. This is considered a bearish sign in technical analysis.
