Silver Prices Spark New Interest in Old Mine Waste
Silver prices have surged to historic highs in recent months, and two companies, Kuya Silver and Brixton Metals, are taking advantage of this trend by exploring old mine waste for hidden value.
Kuya Silver is focusing on its 13,000-hectare Silver Kings project in the Cobalt silver mining district of northeastern Ontario. The company has found 'significant' silver mineralization in sampling results from the Kerr project, which hosted eight former mines that produced between 50 million and 60 million ounces of silver between 1905 and 1970.
The highest grades were found in crushed material at the site of the former Kerr Lake mill, with up to 168 grams per tonne of silver and 0.365% cobalt. Other tailings results from the former Frontier mine tested at 77 grams per tonne of high-grade silver.
