Silver Prices Surge as AI Data Center Demand Remains Strong
Silver prices have rebounded in August, increasing by 8% from their recent low of around $56 an ounce to more than $64 an ounce this week. This surge is attributed to the ongoing demand for the metal in AI data centers, which require silver's high conductivity and corrosion resistance.
Data center spending is projected to reach a staggering $7 trillion by 2030, according to McKinsey estimates. Despite recent reservations among investors, major hyperscalers like Meta Platforms, Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft appear to be committed to their spending plans.
The stocks of silver producers such as First Majestic Silver (NYSE: AG), Wheaton Precious Metals (NYSE: WPM), and Pan American Silver (NYSE: PAAS) have also seen significant gains in August. Specifically, Wheaton Precious Metals reported stellar second-quarter results last week, with earnings nearly doubling from the same period a year ago.
