Silver Prices Surge, Commodity Stocks on the Verge of Breakout
Commodity stocks are on the cusp of a breakout, according to recent market trends. The silver price has broken out in recent days, following the supposed end of the war in the Persian Gulf and weak US economic data.
The mining indices have risen sharply, with gold heavyweight Agnico Eagle gaining nearly a quarter in value.
First Majestic Silver is among the major players in the silver sector, with a market capitalization of around $9 billion. The company's stock resumed its upward trend after a long period of sideways movement, driven by strong quarterly results.
The second-quarter results saw First Majestic generate free cash flow of $194.6 million, more than double the figure for the same quarter last year. Adjusted earnings per share quadrupled to $0.21, while production of 3.8 million ounces of silver and 34,660 ounces of gold exceeded expectations.
Globex Mining also made significant announcements, including approval for its partner Lincoln Gold Mining's Bell Mountain project in Nevada. The company will receive a 3% gross metal royalty on the project, which is expected to produce 20,000 ounces of gold equivalent per year.
B2Gold reported strong quarterly results, with earnings per share increasing to $0.31. However, investors were deterred by the company's negative free cash flow due to high tax payments in Mali and obligations from prepaid gold supply contracts.
