Silver Rally Driven by Interest Rate Shifts and Industrial Demand
The iShares Silver Trust (SLV) has seen explosive momentum in its stock price, increasing by over 63% in the trailing year. This surge can be attributed to a combination of factors, including shifting Federal Reserve math and rising demand for silver.
One key factor driving the increase is the decline in interest rates. When inflation fears subside and interest rates fall, the U.S. dollar weakens, making silver more attractive to investors. As interest rates drop, people move their money into the silver market due to its lack of regular payouts compared to bonds or savings accounts.
The iShares Silver Trust has also seen support from a widening structural supply deficit in the silver market. Record-breaking industrial demand, particularly from photovoltaic (solar panel) manufacturing and electronics sectors, continues to deplete physical inventories.
