Silver Rate Surges by 2.38% on US Treasury Yield Decline
The silver rate in India rose by 2.38% on August 20th, 2026, driven by a sharp decline in US Treasury yields and a weaker dollar.
According to data from financial news source Financialexpress.com, the price of 1 gm of silver increased to ₹243 from ₹237, while the 10 gm silver rate rose to ₹2,431 from ₹2,374. The price of 1 kg of silver also surged to ₹243,050 from ₹237,410.
The rally in silver prices is attributed to the US Treasury Department's decision to double the size of its liquidity-support buyback operations for longer-dated bonds, which led to a sharp decline in US Treasury yields. Additionally, a weaker dollar makes silver less expensive for buyers in other currencies, thereby aiding demand.
However, analysts suggest that silver may remain range-bound in the near term due to inflationary concerns and geopolitical uncertainties. Retail investors are advised to track both domestic rates and international trends before making buying decisions.
