Silver Speculators Hold Net Short Positions Amid Market Volatility
The latest COT Silver Report, released on August 21, 2026, by SilverSeek provides an overview of the current market trends and positions in the silver futures market. The report breaks down the data into large speculators, commercial holders, total traders, small speculators, longs, shorts, spreading, open interest, and non-reportable positions.
The numbers show that as of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, large speculators had a net short position of -922 contracts with 38,353 long contracts and 14,728 short contracts. Commercial holders also held a net short position of -901 contracts with 34,672 long contracts and 79,464 short contracts.
The total traders' positions showed a net short position of 2,544 contracts with 90,515 long contracts and 111,682 short contracts. Small speculators had a net long position of 497 contracts with 29,602 long contracts and 8,435 short contracts.
Looking at the combined futures & options data, large speculators held a net short position of -1,063 contracts with 35,993 long contracts and 14,562 short contracts. Commercial holders also held a net short position of -1,028 contracts with 37,871 long contracts and 81,156 short contracts.
