Silver's Price Swing Raises Questions About Rally Sustainability
Silver's price action has become increasingly complex, and its recent drop was notable. On August 18, silver fell by 3.3% to $63.94, outpacing gold's modest 1.2% decline.
However, market direction reversed quickly on Wednesday after the U.S. Treasury announced larger bond buyback operations, which pushed Treasury yields lower and weakened the U.S. dollar. This gave non-yielding assets some breathing room, with silver rebounding by 3.69% to $65.64.
The sharp drop in silver's price was significant, but it did not break the underlying technical structure. Technical support now sits around the $61 to $63 zone, and silver futures reached an intraday low of $63.08 on August 18, placing the metal directly above an important support area.
