Sindh Government Boosts Coordination with Flour Mills for Affordable Flour Supply
The Sindh Government has strengthened its coordination with flour mills to ensure affordable flour supply across the province. Provincial Minister for Food, Makhdoom Mehboob uz Zaman, chaired a high-level meeting with the Flour Mills Association delegation on July 25th to review the prevailing wheat and flour situation.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Mehboob uz Zaman emphasized that ensuring affordable flour is the government's top priority. He directed flour mill owners to maintain prices at the lowest possible level and continue uninterrupted supplies throughout Sindh.
The Minister informed the meeting that the Sindh Government has intensified operations against wheat hoarders, illegal profiteers, and unauthorized traders, which has significantly improved market stability. The government currently possesses 446,947 metric tonnes of wheat stocks, comprising 140,000 metric tonnes of carry-over stock, 81,812 metric tonnes procured during the current procurement season, and 225,135 metric tonnes recovered during anti-hoarding operations.
Representatives of the Flour Mills Association appreciated the government's cooperation and requested to enhance the permissible wheat storage limit for flour mills from one month's grinding capacity to two months. The Minister assured that their reservations would be placed before the government for consideration.
