Singapore and Australia Strengthen Bilateral Ties through New Agreements
Singapore and Australia have strengthened their bilateral ties by signing two agreements to ensure an unrestricted flow of essential goods and defense supplies between the two nations. The deals, signed during the 15th Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee meeting in Adelaide on July 27, include a legally-binding addition to their free trade agreement for both countries not to adopt export restrictions on diesel and liquefied natural gas.
Defense Minister Chan Chun Sing emphasized that trust is key to their partnership, stating 'that kind of deep reservoir of trust that exists between Australia and Singapore at all levels, at a personal level, at institutional level - that is key to how we are able to do things together.'
The agreements also cover economic resilience and defense industrial cooperation. The Ministry of Trade and Industry said the deal reflects both countries' commitment to supply chain resilience and prioritizing each other in trading essential supplies.
