Singapore Issues Eight New LNG Bunkering Licenses as Demand Surges
Singapore has taken another step towards becoming a major player in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering market, issuing eight new licenses to supply LNG as a marine fuel. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore announced the move on Thursday, citing growing demand for LNG bunkering services. The new licenses will be valid from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2031.
The companies awarded the licenses include Aramco Trading Singapore, Equatorial Marine Fuel Management Services, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific, PetroChina International Singapore, Shell Eastern Trading, Sinopec Fuel Oil Singapore, TotalEnergies Gas & Power Asia-Sembcorp Fuels Singapore Joint Venture, and Vitol Bunkers. These companies will provide LNG bunkering services, including fuel supply, storage, cargo transfer, and delivery to vessels.
The awarding of the licenses comes after a call for applications earlier in January this year. Before this, there were only three LNG bunker suppliers in Singapore: FuelLNG, Pavilion Gas, and TotalEnergies Marine Fuels. In the first half of 2026, LNG bunker sales in Singapore totaled 318,300 tons, a 30% increase compared to the same period last year.
