Singapore's Energy Mix Set for a Major Shift by 2035
Singapore aims to reduce its reliance on natural gas in its energy mix by 2035, but the country still expects over 50% of its energy to come from this source.
Currently, 94.3% of Singapore's energy is generated from natural gas, with imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) accounting for a significant portion of the fuel mix.
The remaining percentage comes from other sources such as solar and municipal energy waste, but experts say that renewable energy is still expensive to produce at scale, making it difficult to import more of it.
By 2035, natural gas is expected to be reduced to over 50%, with imports of renewable energy accounting for about 30%.
