SM Energy Stock Surges on Crude Price Rally
Shares of oil and gas producer SM Energy (SM) rose by 3.5% in early trading, following a surge in crude oil prices due to Middle East supply disruptions.
The global benchmark for crude oil, Brent, jumped to around $107 per barrel, while U.S. crude traded above $103 per barrel.
Higher crude prices benefit energy producers by increasing the revenue from their petroleum output, expanding operating profit margins and boosting free cash flow.
SM Energy's shares have been volatile in recent months, with 30 price moves greater than 5% over the past year. The current increase is seen as significant but not a fundamental change in the market's perception of the company.
