Smith Condemns US Trade War as 'Betrayal' of Trusted Ally

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has condemned the U.S. trade war against Canada as a 'betrayal' of a trusted ally, echoing her previous statements on the matter.

In a strong-worded statement, Smith referenced historical instances where Canada and the U.S. fought side by side, including during 9/11, Afghanistan, and Juno Beach in World War II.

She emphasized that using energy exports as leverage would be more detrimental to Canadians than beneficial, potentially 'devastating' the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Albertans and hobbling neighboring provinces.

Smith also pointed out that imposing an export levy on energy exports or other retaliatory measures could prompt the U.S. to slap massive tariffs on oil and natural gas from the Midwest, ultimately causing Canada to lose its customers in the region.
