Smith Rejects Energy Export Cut-Off in Trade War

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has stated that cutting off energy exports to the US is not viable in the ongoing Canada-US trade war.

The tariffs, which will be applied at a rate of 50%, target a wide range of Canadian exports, including toys, motor vehicles, cement, hockey sticks, power tools, and dairy products.

Smith has been in contact with Ontario Premier Doug Ford to discuss how to mitigate the effects of the tariffs on Ontario's manufacturing sector.

Prime Minister Mark Carney noted that Canada's energy exports are a significant contributor to the US economy, supplying 99% of their natural gas imports, 85% of electricity imports, and 60% of crude oil imports.
