Smith Rejects Oil Exports as Retaliation Tool Against US Tariffs

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has rejected the idea of using oil exports as leverage against the Trump administration's tariff policy. According to Global News, she stated that cutting off or taxing Alberta's oil exports to the United States would be a disastrous policy decision.

The move could trigger a disproportionate tariff response from the US, potentially hurting the Canadian economy. Smith estimated that this would lead to millions of lost jobs and economically hobble neighboring provinces in the east.

Alberta exports approximately 4 million barrels of crude oil daily to the US, valued at around $80 billion last year. While Trump has not threatened tariffs on Canadian crude, Smith warned that this could change if Canada uses oil exports as a retaliatory measure.
