Labor Day gas prices are expected to reach record highs in Sonoma Valley and across California, according to a report from GasBuddy. The fuel savings platform predicts that Labor Day 2026 will see an average price of $4.03 per gallon, surpassing the previous record of $3.83 set in 2012.

The cheapest prices for regular gasoline on Thursday were around $5.69 per gallon in Sonoma Valley, while AAA reported an average price of just under $5.80 per gallon for California. Nationally, gas prices averaged $4.14 per gallon on Thursday.

Global oil shipments have been disrupted by the war in Iran and the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, keeping crude costs elevated. Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries have also tightened supplies of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel worldwide.
