South Africa's Agricultural Exports Hit Record US$4.1 Billion in Q2 2026
South Africa's agricultural sector has recorded a significant milestone in the second quarter of 2026, with exports reaching a record high of US$4.1 billion, up by 10% year-on-year.
This growth can be attributed to higher volumes, rising global prices, and improved efficiency at the Cape Town port. Wandile Sihlobo, chief economist at the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa, noted that shipments to the United States increased by 56% from the first quarter due to a reduction in tariff rates.
The continent remains the primary destination for South African agricultural exports, accounting for 40% of total shipments. The citrus industry continued to perform strongly, while diversification into other fruits, nuts, and corn shipments also supported growth.
