South Asia Egg Prices Soar Amid Heat and Rising Feed Costs
Rising temperatures and water shortages are pushing up egg prices in South Asia, particularly in India and Sri Lanka. Poultry producers are increasing farm-gate prices due to higher production costs.
The main drivers of these increased costs are the higher prices of corn and soybeans, key ingredients used in poultry feed, as well as transportation costs, labor expenses, and operating costs at poultry farms.
In India, farm-gate egg prices have exceeded $0.07 per egg in many states, while in Sri Lanka, the Egg Producers Association has announced plans to raise prices to $0.12 per egg in the near term.
