South Carolina Drivers Hit Hard by Sudden Gas Price Spike
South Carolina's drivers are facing higher gas prices despite the summer driving season being over. According to AAA, the average price for regular gas in South Carolina is $3.90 per gallon, compared to the national average of $4.27.
Tiffany Wright, a spokesperson for AAA in South Carolina, explained that the recent increase is unusual for this time of year. 'In South Carolina alone, it went up 9 cents on our state average just overnight, we're actually 12 cents up from last week and 30 cents up from a month ago,' she said.
The sudden increase in gas prices can be attributed to higher crude oil prices, which account for 55% of what drivers pay at the pump. Global tensions and uncertainty in the oil market can also contribute to volatility in prices.
Higher diesel prices have reached record highs, with an average price of $5.84 per gallon in South Carolina and $5.97 nationally. The impact of higher fuel prices can extend beyond what drivers pay to fill their tanks, as it can trickle down to the market and affect grocery store prices.
