South Carolina Gas Prices Spike Unexpectedly Amid Summer Slump
South Carolina drivers are facing a surprise increase in gas prices, despite typically seeing a drop-off after the summer driving season. According to AAA, the state's average price for regular gas has risen to $3.90 per gallon, with diesel prices reaching record highs at $5.84 per gallon.
Tiffany Wright, a spokesperson for AAA in South Carolina, noted that the recent increase is unusual and largely due to higher crude oil prices, which account for 55% of what drivers pay at the pump.
Wright explained that global tensions and uncertainty in the oil market are also contributing factors. The impact of higher diesel prices can extend beyond fuel costs, with Wright citing a 'trickle-down effect' on grocery store prices.
