South Carolina Gas Prices Surge 10 Cents in a Week Amid Global Tensions
South Carolina's average gasoline prices have seen a significant increase over the past week. According to GasBuddy, the survey of 3,028 stations found that prices rose by 10.3 cents per gallon from last week, with an average price of $3.74 per gallon as of July 27, 2026.
This marks a notable jump compared to the same period last year, where prices are now 97.6 cents per gallon higher. The state's prices also surpassed those of a month ago by 28.4 cents per gallon.
The cheapest station in South Carolina was priced at $3.37 per gallon on July 26, while the most expensive reached as high as $5.19 per gallon. Nationally, the average price has increased by 23.9 cents from last month and stands 95.6 cents higher than a year ago.
GasBuddy's Patrick De Haan attributed the rise in prices to ongoing geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran, as well as renewed Houthi attacks and Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries. However, he noted that a recent decrease in hostilities may lead to a slowdown in price increases at the pump.
