South Dakota Corn Growers Association Weighs In on Senate Farm Bill
The U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee is poised to vote on the Agriculture Act of 2026, a bill that has significant implications for corn growers in South Dakota.
The South Dakota Corn Growers Association has been working closely with Senator John Thune to address key concerns in the bill, including transparency on fertilizer prices.
Fertilizer prices have skyrocketed since 2022, leaving farmers financially strained. The proposed legislation would require the U.S. Department of Agriculture to collect and publish fertilizer price information on a weekly basis, giving producers better insight into market trends and potential pricing irregularities.
The bill also includes provisions that increase loan caps for young farmers looking to purchase land, with the direct ownership loan cap rising from $600,000 to $850,000 and guaranteed ownership loans increasing to $3.5 million.
