South Sinai Oil Spill Cleaned Up After 200 Tons of Contaminated Sand Removed

A recent oil spill in South Sinai's Ras Badran coastal area has been cleaned up by the Petroleum Safety and Environmental Services Company (Petrosafe) on behalf of Suez Oil Company (SUCO).

The spill, which was first reported on August 23, affected a three-kilometer stretch of water and reached parts of the public beach in Abu Rudeis.

Around 200 tons of contaminated sand were removed during three days of cleanup operations, with the material being collected using manual equipment and transported to SUCO's designated collection point for disposal.

The leak was eventually traced to a crude-oil production pipeline at the Ras Badran site, which was repaired by a specialized Petrobel vessel. Tests carried out after the repair found no further leakage.
