South Sudan Aims for 200,000 Barrels Daily Oil Production Next Year
The Ministry of Petroleum in South Sudan aims to increase crude oil production to at least 200,000 barrels per day by next year. According to Dr Santino Ayuel Longar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum, current production stands at around 175,000 barrels per day following recent increases in several oil-producing areas.
Dr Ayuel attributed the increase to improved production in various fields, including the DPOC concession area, where output has risen from about 96,000 barrels per day to an average of 102,000 barrels. Similarly, SPOC's production has increased from around 9,000 barrels to between 13,000 and 14,000 barrels per day.
However, Dr Ayuel also noted that some oil fields are ageing and their production is declining, which poses a challenge for the government in reaching its target. To address this issue, the government is working with operating companies to use modern technology to improve production and efficiency.
