South Sudan Aims for 200,000 Barrels Per Day Oil Production by Next Year

The Ministry of Petroleum in South Sudan is working to increase crude oil production to at least 200,000 barrels per day by next year. According to Undersecretary Dr Santino Ayuel Longar, current production stands at around 175,000 barrels per day following recent increases in several oil-producing areas.

Dr Ayuel said that the government is working with operating companies to use modern technology to improve production and efficiency, as some oil fields are ageing and their production is declining. He cited examples of increased production in the DPOC concession area and SPOC, where output has risen from 96,000 barrels per day to an average of 102,000 barrels and from around 9,000 barrels to between 13,000 and 14,000 barrels per day, respectively.

Dr Ayuel emphasized that the increase in production is a significant achievement, but the government aims to further boost output to meet its target of 200,000 barrels per day by next year. He attributed this growth to improved production in several oil-producing areas despite the ageing of some fields.
