South Sudan Eyes 25% Oil Production Hike by Next Year
The South Sudanese government is working to increase crude oil production from around 175,000 barrels per day to at least 200,000 barrels daily by next year. According to Dr Santino Ayuel Longar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum, this goal is ambitious but achievable with the current momentum. The ministry has reported a significant increase in oil production following recent improvements in several oil-producing areas.
Dr Ayuel attributed the surge in production to improved operations at the DPOC concession area, where output has risen from about 96,000 barrels per day to an average of 102,000 barrels. Similarly, SPOC has seen a notable increase in production, with daily averages ranging between 13,000 and 14,000 barrels.
The Undersecretary acknowledged that some oil fields are aging and their production is declining, which necessitates the adoption of modern technology to enhance efficiency. By leveraging cutting-edge solutions, operating companies can optimize oil extraction and contribute to meeting the government's target.
