Southern Copper Outshines S&P 500 as Copper Futures Hit Record Highs
Southern Copper Corporation (SCCO) is outperforming the S&P 500 in 2026, thanks to a robust copper market. COMEX copper futures have surged more than 17% this year, reaching a record high near $6.90 per pound on August 6.
The company's second-quarter financials reflect this momentum, with net sales of $4,289.0 million, up 40.6% from the same period last year. Net income also climbed 71.6% year-over-year to a record $1,670.0 million.
Southern Copper's share performance has exceeded that of the S&P 500 Index ($SPX), which has gained 13.70% so far in 2026. This outperformance underscores the strength of the current copper cycle for the miner.
